Medieval Armenia, time of the Crusades. Cilician Kingdom, King Hetoum I, 1226 - 1270 AD. Large copper Kardez. King seated cross-legged on ornate throne, circle border. He holds a globus cruciger and fleur-de-lis, Armenian inscription: "+ Hetoum King of the Armenians" / Potent cross with half-moon in third quadrant, lines in other three quadrants, Armenian inscription: "+ Struck in the City of Sis”. Ref: Nercessian ACV 364 for type. Great detail, deep olive-green patina with light earthen highlights. Coin diameter 21mm. Encapsulated and graded Fine Details by NGC. An excellent specimen!
