Spanish Colonial Santos // 17th-19th century AD
Product Description
A wonderful Spanish Colonial female wood santos, c. 17th-19th century AD. Depicting the a standing saint, with inlaid glass eyes, wearing long robes and drapery, with long, flowing hair. She once likely held a Bible, but this was lost to history. Upon the top of the multi-tiered stand sits a wide, semicircular base decorated with what used to be three faces of saints (two remain). Their haircuts reminiscent of Catholic friars of the Colonial period. Traces of gilding still visible on base and areas of the body along with lots of polychrome coloration still intact! H: 16 1/2". Ex Brooklyn, NY private collection.
