Ancient Greek, c. 325 BC. Fantastic miniature Apulian Xenon-ware krater, from Magna Graecia, Greek South Italy. Wonderful, delicate form, with two vertical handles, small ring foot, wide body and flared rim. Excellent, glossy almost metallic-black background with vibrant reddish-orange painted wave motif and vertical accent details around the body. H: 2 1/4"; W: 2 5/8". Provenance: Ex Private UK collection, acquired on the Dutch art market; previously acquired on the Belgian art market; ex Peter van der Elst, Liege, 1987. An extremely fine example from the time of Alexander the Great!
